Pin curls for retro girls

Inspired by a feature done last week by the adorable Mrs Amber Apple about her pin curling (while wearing a Runaround Sue Vintage blouse!), my friend and fellow foodie/craft-lover/dare-taker decided to pin-curl last evening and document our pincurling experiences with some pics!

My hair is probably way too long for a really good head full of pin curls but I love it anyway. I'm feeling quite fabulous and girly walking about with my curls bouncing over my new-to-me 50s polka dot dress! On top of that it's a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful Sunday morning, I'm having a delicious 3rd cup of coffee, and getting ready for my usual Sunday afternoon of super-thrifting. Yay!

My pin curls and I:

And yes that there dress is from the previous blog post regarding new loves of my life. I am having a ball today as I realize this is probably the first time it's been worn in 50 years, and I imagine She would be proud to know I'm bringing it back to life, with pin curls no less ♥

Aaaaand......

NO way NO how: The four new loves of my life

Two days ago, I happened upon four beautiful gems. Here's how I found them!

There's one thrift store in town that I only get to around twice a month. The new manager is a girl after my own heart - she saw me a few weeks ago for the first time and immediately directed me to the just-arrived Western shirts in the back. She's pickin' up what I'm puttin' down. She gets it. Well when I walked in on Friday she excitedly told me of a new donation of vintage dresses: not yet for sale, still smelling of mildew and Febreezing as we spoke! I followed her, turned the corner and beheld some stunning works of art before me. She had hung them in order of her favorites. I took the first four, and couldn't even wait to get them home to try them on. I fit into two just fine but the other two would require some brief starvation - totally worth it! Those darn vintage waistlines. Won't be the first or the last time I'll diet myself into a darling piece of fashion history. Worth it worth it worth it!

So here they are. I may bring myself to sell one of them in the shop but not quite sure if I will. I have always found 50s dresses in vintage shops of course but have never come across anything like this on a normal day of thrifting. I think they're treasures. They're from my favorite era, and I don't think I can let them go. Sorry y'all!

Ebay isn't ALL that bad

Well, it is. A bit. Its audience isn't as targeted as Etsy, nor is the community as hospitable. And the fees, Lawd, the fees. BUT what I DO like is that it allows you to donate a percentage of each sale (your choice, some or all) to the charity of YOUR CHOICE. So I've stuck a few coats up on a temp shop site over at the other E to see how it goes. I'm very excited to be able to donate to the NYC chapter of the Lymphoma Society. One of my dearest friends in all of the world is there in Manhattan battling this son-of-a-bit@& as we speak. I feel helpless, and like punching cancer in the face, but maybe this can help do just that.

Just a few things up just now but more to come soon...

Go on and have a wee look: http://stores.ebay.com/Runaround-Sue-Vintage-Boutique
